Jon was a Gentoo developer until 2007 when he retired voluntarily. He stayed on as a valuable #gentoo operator and forums operator.

He died at age 29, much too young.

We appreciate Jonathan's active participation in the Perl developer community and the numerous code modules he developed on The Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN) as avenj. We are humbled and honored that he wanted to be remembered through his service to our community of developers who will miss him too.
