I see the same behaviour for a second user. (BTW, the menu entry "switch user" does not work, I have to log off an login.) After switching back to user rose my selected background and my selected panel favorites disappeared. Only the default applications (firefox, evolution, rhythmbox, shotwell and files) are shown. Even If I create a new user "testappmenu" and login as "testappmenu" I see this behaviour. If I start gnome-tweak-tool, I see that all extensions are enabled as default (with except of the Application menu)., see the attached image Created attachment 439724 [details]

Removing of gnome-shell-frippery did not help either. Reeinstalling all glib, gtk and gnome packages: emerge -v1 --keep-going `qlist -IC glib gtk gnome` did not help either. The application menu is not accessible. I am still missing the application menu at this system. And gnome-tweak-tool shows the exclamation mark for the "Application menu". Is there anything else, what I could check? I am also missing the Activities Menu. If I disable the "Applications menu" on other systems I get at least an Activities menu. At this system (condor) the panel starts with Places. Could it be, that this issue is a problem with the radeon driver? root@condor:/root(3)# lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Output of glxinfo
I have set VIDEO_CARDS="radeon radeonsi" and reemerge all x11-drivers and mesa. 'gnome-control-center' says "Graphics: Gallium 0.4 on AMD PITCAIRN (DRM 2.45.0 / 4.7.0-gentoo, LLVM 3.8.1)". It seems, that there are no relevant errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log: root@condor:/root(7)# grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. [ 728.751] (EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0) [ 728.751] (EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist, 0) But nevertheless there is still no "Activities" menu. I cannot reproduce this problem at all with either my account or with a new / fresh account created to test this :/ I have this error also with gnome-classic.
