there's a small shellscript called 'midentify' in the TOOLS-directory of mplayer-distribution. You install it to /usr/share/doc/mplayer-1.0_pre5-r2/TOOLS.

PLEASE move that tool to /usr/bin and make it executable by default. Some other tools (i.e. lf-mkmovixiso from media-video/emovix) are using it. It's also a nice tool for everyday-usage!

Perhaps some other tools also. For example 'wma2ogg.pl' and such.
