Thank you for your report about installing torch 7 on gentoo it must have been a lot of work. Is there a reason for a possible removal of torch-3* besides being old? One reason could be that it can not be compiled anymore due to missing other libraries on gentoo. If so, please open a new bug for torch-3 and just link it in the comment, if you like. Please see Bug 583068 for my torch-3 removal proposal Should there be any takers to try to bring torch-7 to Gentoo, I can - while having neither time nor expertise to make an ebuild myself - be available to help with the pitfalls there are during the build. In short: I think I can spare some days of effort to anyone who would like to take a shot at providing an ebuild. commit af5bd0ce8576e0ad533467aa9c7e2d3b8945121d Author: Michał Górny <mgorny@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: Sun Jun 26 17:13:13 2016 Commit: Michał Górny <mgorny@gentoo.org> CommitDate: Sun Jun 26 17:13:13 2016 sci-libs/torch: Remove last rited packages |
Newest version in portage is 3.1 - I'm not exactly sure how old that is. # eix torch * sci-libs/torch Available versions: (~)3 (~)3.1 {debug doc examples} Homepage: http://www.torch.ch/ Description: Machine-learning library, written in simple C++ which is at the moment quite pointless. I managed to install Torch7 on Gentoo see https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/torch7/mtNfCLlQNSU It's quite a hassle, but it could serve some package maintainer as guiding line to either provide a Torch7 ebuild or remove torch altogether. Reproducible: Always
