Looking at the ebuild, it does (massively snipped): Determine the name of the docs tarball: MY_FILENAME_DOCS="${PN}-docs-${PV}.tar.gz" Download and rename it: SRC_URI="doc? ( http://www.rsyslog.com/files/download/${PN}/${MY_URL_PREFIX}${PN}-doc-${MY_PV}.tar.gz -> ${MY_FILENAME_DOCS} )" Then, in src_unpack(), it independently determines *another* name for the docs tarball: local doc_tarball="${PN}-doc-${PV}.tar.gz" and tries to unpack it: unpack ${doc_tarball} MY_FILENAME{,_DOCS} were introduced in 8.18.0, and the doc unpacking code is identical to 8.16.0-r1, so I assume the unpacking code should be changed to use MY_FILENAME_DOCS.
