The build should definitely not be doing this anyway. (In reply to James Le Cuirot from comment #5) well, the ebuild does not use wget AFAICT - I just want to show here, that the download itself works and the IP of the tinderbox isn't blocked by some filter rules. I meant that downloading anything during the build is a strict no-no. Perhaps this is even being enforced now and that's what triggered the error? does someone care about this issue? if not, we will mask this package. Erm - I indeed do use it :-D (In reply to Toralf Förster from comment #9) kicked that package off here from my system, saving 31 java deps. I do use the more uptodate distributed binary, which works fine AFAICT. *** Bug 677048 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** The bug has been referenced in the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=ab0c900f938f48bc635487f6ee9b2b81bcc085af commit ab0c900f938f48bc635487f6ee9b2b81bcc085af Author: Patrice Clement <monsieurp@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2019-05-06 10:01:09 +0000 Commit: Patrice Clement <monsieurp@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2019-05-06 12:42:15 +0000 profiles/package.mask: mask for removal media-tv/tvbrowser. Let's mask this package for removal. I don't know where is the problem to fix this package. I download the actual version from the homepage, this was 4.0.1 and it works without any problem. In portage are only very old builds with bugs. Why? Why do you never switch to 4.0.1? Why I am unable to build tvbrowser from portage but it works without any problems if I download it from the homepage? As far as we are concerned, we (myself included) have never shown a tremendous amount of interest in maintaining this package. It's one of those Java software that one must use on a daily basis to really work out its internals. Unfortunately, we aren't part of those heavy users. As you have pointed out, the download-able version works just fine. You should definitely keep using it. If you are willing to maintain tvbrowser through Portage, feel free to file a PR, fix the issue and take over maintainership. Otherwise, the package will be removed from the Portage tree on June 6th. Hello Patrice,I am not able to maintain it. But why? There is no need for tvbrowser in portage. It works fine with an direct download. You can remove this old, buggy ebuild. But perhaps, I try to maintain it in the future, but I don't know. Created attachment 576086 [details]
media-tv/tvbrowser-bin-4.0.1.ebuild
In case anyone finds this here and wants to manage this via portage, I have written an ebuild that downloads and installs the bin package from the tvbrowser.org website.
The old (non-bin) version already had several problems for a while with plugins not working or not working correctly.
You don't have to install any dependencies except jdk. It installs into /opt/tvbrowser-bin... and generates a launcher "tvbrowser" and even a desktop entry similar to the old ebuild.
While probably not perfect, this can serve as a starting point and drop-in replacement and should be easy to update for new versions.
Thank you for the ebuild. Please file a new bug report to talk about tvbrowser-bin. tvbrowser and tvbrowser-bin are two distinct packages.
