*** Bug 55061 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** GNOME-2.6 does work on PPC64. There are some quirks, for instance gnome-terminal with pseudo-transparency enabled bring the load of both my processors to 100% (sic!) for such a simple thing as listing a (small) directory (will try without transparency next time I get near Turing's console). For the time being I stay with xterms. Anyway, I was saying, there are some quirks, but the main functionality seems to be there. Will provide a screenshot soon. Newsflash: gnome-terminal now works, I don't not quite know what happened to it yesterday (temperamental the little bastard is). In all, I have yet to find a bug in my 64-bit GNOME installation (though I am sure there are some, I just did not encounter them). Here are the promised screenshots: First, a GNOME desktop with a terminal, XPDF, and XEmacs is at http://turing.ubishops.ca/home/bruda/turing-gnome.png and since I am at it you can see a recursive screenshot at http://turing.ubishops.ca/home/bruda/turing-gnome-rec.png . Note in passing the newly installed themes and background image. ok.. I know this is unfair, but tgall opened the bug #58191 and yours is older, but... life is unfair ^_^ and this bug is not up to date.. I'll mark this as WONTFIX. Don't take it personal, it's just a matter of clearness. :-) Markus closing... |
