I have developed an ebuild for the latest Thunderbird beta, which builds and runs on both my glibc- and musl-based Gentoo systems, based upon work done by tt_1 and Anthony G. Basile's work in bug #564586, combined with the work done by the Mozilla Gentoo Team, as well as some of my own efforts.

I have tested the results on 'hardened/linux/musl/amd64' and 'hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib' profiles. The only major bug I encountered are long Thunderbird start times on the musl profile -- strace shows threads getting stuck on futex(..., FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, ...) calls; but more investigation is needed to properly diagnose the underlying issue. I have not tested lightning/gdata-provider.

Please consider adding this ebuild to the Mozilla overlay, or as a basis for further work in the Gentoo portage tree.

Mozilla herd does not have the resources to support thunderbird in anything other then the esr releases. We only do this with firefox as they do more then just esr build releases.
