Many of the fixes are already in 0.6.5.3-r2. There were a few regressions in 0.6.5.3-r2. I have been trying to transition Gentoo's packaging to have a stable API so that it goes stable, so I was working on getting 0.6.5.3-r3 out before doing 0.6.5.4 and 0.6.5.4-r1. If all goes well, 0.6.5.4 will enter the tree unkeyworded and 0.6.5.4-r1 will enter the tree keyworded ~arch. I am hopeful that either 0.6.5.3-r3 or 0.6.5.4-r1 will be out first stable package. The two should be almost identical though. I assume 0.6.5.4 will be the "vanilla" upstream version, and 0.6.5.4-r1 will have the stable API patches applied? How about gating the patches behind a "vanilla" USE flag instead (disabled by default)? This would make it easier for people who would like to stay on the "stable" version. +1 for some sort of "vanilla" use flag. I haven't been able to work with snapshots, sending, or receiving since these so called "stable" API patches have been applied. https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=572820 +1 to the idea of a flag to disable all patches. I only want to run the upstream version with no patches applied. +1 for vanilla from me as well. 0.6.5.4 is in portage now, isn't it ? 0.6.5.5 has been released: https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/releases/tag/zfs-0.6.5.5 0.6.5.5 brings kernel 4.5 support +1 for version bump! +1 for vanilla use-flag May we have a version bump in the meantime until vanilla use options are decided? sys-kernel/gentoo-sources hit 4.5.0 a month ago, but I don't want to run sys-fs/zfs-9999 just for 4.5.0 compatibility. It's been many months now; any update on what we can do to help stabilize a vanilla and/or recent zfs? Does https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/sys-fs/zfs?id=4dac7fb3edb7e8944c09c44888f5a2a95371e857 imply that 0.6.5.8's ebuild is effectively the 'vanilla' build that we've been waiting for? those versions are long gone. closing as OBSOLETE. |
