Currently, gentoo does not have a Evernote compatible client in the portage tree (at least that I can find). 

I did some searching, and found that nixnote2 has an ebuild present for each version on its sourceforge site, http://sourceforge.net/projects/nevernote/files/. I have tried out the ebuild of version 2.0-beta7, and tested the resultant package without finding any errors or issues. Note that this ebuild refers off to the github of the primary nixnote developer, Randy Baumgarte at https://github.com/baumgarr/nixnote2.git.

Long story short, it shouldn't take much to add it in - just download the ebuild and put it in. Recommend that this sits in "app-office" space, if they're willing to take it on!

Hello Matt, are you willing to proxy maintain it? Maybe try to contact the author of that ebuilds to get them into gentoo, that would be the best.

Hi Tom, I'm happy to help out in the ebuild maintenance etc wherever I can. If I come across anything too difficult, I spose I could just post to the forums to help get resolution. 

I won't pretend to be an expert. First step is, as you suggest, see if upstream uses gentoo and is willing to maintain it within the tree! I'll let you know how that goes.

In the meantime, what should I do to become the proxy maintainer of this ebuild? Should I be following the procedure to become a developer? Or would you just give me access to make changes and add ebuilds for this package?

Post the ebuild here after testing it and then join the irc and ask the folkes what they think about it. It needs some patience, but you know, it's our spare time activity :)
