Description Luke Shumaker 2015-12-10 00:31:51 UTC
RFC 2361 standardized the MIME types for wave audio files and AVI video files as audio/vnd.wave and video/vnd.avi respectively. However, in Gentoo /etc/mime.types, the .wav and .avi file extensions are only associated with audio/x-wav and video/x-msvideo respectively.

not recognized by iana and (hence?) not in our upstream. I think the sensible policy here is to go with iana and not add mime-types individually.

closing.
Comment 2 Luke Shumaker 2022-01-26 22:58:13 UTC
That'd be fair enough, except for that the audio/x-wav and video/x-msvideo types are not present in the IANA registry either, and yet are present in the Gentoo /etc/mime.types.

Anyway, I've emailed media-types@iana.org about why the RFC 2361 types are not in the registry.
