I am using it for years and, personally, I think it's far better than not having build.logs stored by categories as, in that case, it ends up being a complete mess of multiple packages and merges on the same directory I would enable this by default... but it's your call of course split-log Store build logs in category subdirectories of PORT_LOGDIR/build, instead of using PORT_LOGDIR directly.
