Description Joel B 2004-07-04 11:31:35 UTC
When I am booting my new Gentoo system, the system locks during boot after "using anticipatory io scheduler..." The system required a hard reboot.

Relevant info:
kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r7
Stage 3 Install

System:
Athlon 800
Asus A7V Motherboard (w/ bios rev 1004d)
384 MB RAM

I have tried switching to the deadline scheduler but that locks up also.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot gentoo with 2.6.7 kernel with a7v mobo
Actual Results:
System locks up after "using anticipatory io scheduler..."

Expected Results:
System should boot completely to login prompt

kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r7
Stage 3 Install

Athlon 800
Asus A7V Motherboard (w/ bios rev 1004d)

After advice for another bug, I can boot past this freeze if I disable the second IDE channel entirely.
Comment 2 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-04 20:37:59 UTC
Does this also happen on a stock kernel.org kernel with the same .config?
Comment 3 Joel B 2004-07-04 21:27:20 UTC
Yes, this also happens with the stock kernel and same .config.

Thanks, then this is a upstream bug, nothing we added in the gentoo kernel.
