reopen with the output from emerge --info please. Potential solution: add "g77" and/or "f77" to the USE flags in /etc/make.conf Background: After doing a web search and other things I was unable to find any documentation on configuring g77 for gentoo. I then decided to try something: add "g77 f77" to /etc/make.conf and (re)emerge gcc. This worked... Suggestions: *) develop a new portage package "dev-lang/g77" whose sole purpose is to add the approprate USE and other necessary configuration info to the system, and either force a rebuild of the compilers or notify the user that they will need to (re)emerge gcc, *) or modify gcc-* to add the appropriate USE flags to make.conf.
