Description merlin 2015-09-10 11:00:14 UTC
Current available version of Firefox Developer Edition is 42.
Moreover since I updated mine to www-client/firefox-40.0.3, the "Developer Edition" theme available in the "Customize" panel is gone.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Is this due to bug 541278 fixes to remove the dev profile?

Has the dev profile been removed?

I thought the bindist use flag of the ebuild enabled the Firefox Aurora version which is now the Developer Edition.

OK so for starters, gentoo doesn't carry a firefox-dev-edition package, nor do we (read: I) intend to provide ebuilds for the pre-beta or nightly versions of firefox.

The firefox package when built with USE=bindist does, from firefox-36 to firefox-40, install the upstream "developer edition" version of firefox for that version. As of firefox-41, USE=bindist should continue to install the "developer edition" brand and theme but will not include in-code changes that the MOZ_DEV_EDITION flag adds (which mainly just cause profiles to stop working, see bug 536682).

As this seems to essentially be a requiest for a dev-edition package, i'm going to resolve it as a dupe. However see bug 536682 for any issues you have with the way firefox works (or doesn't work) with USE="bindist".
