when installing the system.  I used the Live CD and followed all the steps detailed in the handbook to install the OS.  I used a stage 2 for Athalon-XP core.  Upon the "Progressing Stage 2 to Stage 3" step, where it requires "emerge system" command to install the system, i encountered a problem.  It started fine, and then it gave me a compile error
"checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create execuatables".  I am fairly new to linux so I cannot figure it out myself .

I think it's not the place to ask for this kind of help.
you should try in forums.
trought, you should check your CFLAGS,if you made a mistake there,this can give this kind of error.

Please post the error, otherwise we can't do anything to help.

Also, the output of "emerge info" would be useful.

In case you're not sure how to get this, you can use links2 on the CD to browse to bugzilla and post to this bug.  You can also copy and paste with the mouse on the CD.
