I think xdg-utils is only a suite of tools which deals with filetype associations/desktop database. It should be outside of xdg-utils' realm to depend on a webbrowser?

xdg-utils will try to open various types of files depending on the desktop you are running and, for example, some browsers rely on it to open that files

I can not parse that, could you please clarify it? Why is it that xdg-utils depends on a browser?
