Bug 54861 – invalid package name portage after emerge sync

After each emerge sync I get the following error message:

Invalid package name: sys-apps/portage-2.0.51_pre10


The Invalid package name changes if a new portage version is out. It's always portage though.

The "performing global updates" doesn't show up everytime. The invalid package name does.


I tried to remove the portage files in the /usr/portage/ directory, but with no success. Fixpackages had no effect either.

This error doesn't do anything bad. Emerge a new version of portage wasn't a problem. It's just a bit "annoying" to read it everytime :)

"grep -r portage-2.0.51 /etc/portage" had no results.

after an "emerge sync" today, I get the following modified error message:



wrote 12305 bytes  read 2383163 bytes  21876.42 bytes/sec
total size is 72327754  speedup is 30.19

the recent emerge sync today made the probleme go away
