same here. of course i could use subfs/submount, but it's not that functional as supermount, because it fills up my syslog with trash and seems to have troubles with kde-apps like the kde sysmonitor etc. additionally, bootsplash seems to be broken. Yes, supermount is removed from the 2.6.7 gentoo-dev-sources, as the patch we had no longer works. I will work on fixing this next week when I get time. Oh, and if you have problems with bootsplash, please file a new bug, with info on what doesn't work for you. *** Bug 54397 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Created attachment 33617 [details, diff]
supermount-for-2.6.7.patch
Here's supermount for 2.6.7. I've only tested it through compilation, so could
somebody please apply it and see if it works?
i applied the 2.6.5 supermount patch and it compiled good, but on restart i saw kernel didn't support the supermount file system. so i think you should work not only for compilation issues but real code issues. good work. (ask the official dev) I also tested the patch, but under 2.6.7-rc2-mm2. It worked as far as I could make up a nonsense mount command, and it didn't say "unknown type supermount", it just gave me the error i expected (can't find superblock or something). Was planning to try it on gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7 later. Another vote for including supermount again in gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-rxx. Submount seems to be a replacement, but not for me: I use a statically linked kernel without any module infrastructure, and supermount can be linked into the kernel, whereas submount can only be built as a module. P.S.: Could feature drops *please* be noted in the changelog? Patch compiles, boots, seems to work for me. Pls include it. Patrizio, could you please re-test? Feel free to detail how you are attempting to get this going, so that we can point out any places you might be going wrong. Wait, sorry, I misread. You said you applied the 2.6.5 supermount patch. This patch fails in two places - one of which being the addition to the Makefile. Could you please take clean sources and then test using the patch I posted here? The patch seems to be working ok here too. Patch works OK here too. patch apply perfectly. i'm now started the compilation, my pc is very slow (p2 400mhz) and i'm already compiling mozilla too. i'll report as soon as i finish. but i saw 3-4 users reporting good news...so...why shouldn't work here too? good work Daniel! Another vote for including the patch... please :) I patched my kernel for now, but would like to use this functionality without a future surprise... I'm ready to commit gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r1 once the updated patch tarballs hit the mirrors. This update contains the supermount patch I posted here. Unfortunately, I messed up one of the tarballs, and it'll take a few more hours before the real one hits the mirrors. I'll commit first thing tomorrow :) In portage. By the way, this patch is under consideration of being dropped for good. There are some userspace solutions emerging (e.g. ivman, gnome-volume-manager) so it would be appreciated if you supermount users could perhaps test out these and aid their integration into Gentoo. |
