configure is failing with:

seems to be coming from:
onftest.c: In function 'main':
conftest.c:110:24: error: expected expression before ')' token
 if (sizeof ((ptrdiff_t)))

this is the wrong config.log.  this is from the amd64 dir, not the x86.
