mysql: worst game ever I suspect a configuration problem with your my.cnf. The tmpdir is determined from your my.cnf using this command: `/usr/bin/my_print_defaults mysqld | sed -n "/^--tmpdir=/s,--tmpdir=,,gp"` This can also be shown by `/usr/bin/my_print_defaults mysqld | grep tmpdir` Please let me know if you need more assistance or find me on freenode IRC This was a reinstall from quickpkg after emerge -C. I've come around it by `chmod o+w /` temporarily.
It is possible that something got screwed in my process of reinstallation. Sorry but I have no time to investigate this issue, feel free to close this ticket.

Would you advise MariaDB as a replacement? Is it really better than current MySQL?

Is it really better than current > MySQL? The answer is probably very simple.. quickpkg does *not* include configs by default and can give you a blank file unless you add --include-config. |
