I don't recall exactly why, but a couple of things were listed in portage to recompile due to changing PYTHON_TARGETS. Only kmod didn't compile correctly.

I have the following versions of dev-lang/python installed on my system:
2.7.7 3.2.5-r6 3.3.5-r1 3.4.1 

# emerge -pDuvN world
 ...
[ebuild   R    ] sys-apps/kmod-18-r1  USE="doc lzma python tools zlib -debug -static-libs" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3 -python3_4 (-python3_2%)" 0 KiB
 ...

See attached log with gcc-4.8.3: ERROR.

# gcc-config -l
 [1] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.7.3
 [2] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.8.3 *

I then reverted back to gcc 4.7.3, just to see if it makes a difference.

Question is: why?

I am closing this as OBSOLETE considering the age of this report and that the affected kmod version is long gone from the tree.
If this is still an issue, please file a new bug against a recent kmod version. Thanks.
