I tried to emerge mplayer which needs libsdl to work, but something wrong happenned when emerging libsdl.

removing the joystick patch fixed this for me .. 

remove the follwing line : 

epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PV}-joystick.patch #52833

Compiles for me after that

Try replacing the 1.2.7-joystick file with the one provided on

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52833

I think this bug is a duplicate.
