That is really weird. It actually depends on x11-libs/gtk+:2.

I don't see that dep listed in ebuild, then, maybe you have gtk+2 pulled indirectly and that would explain this Ah it looks like that this commit was when (before) cvs was broken.. 14 Oct 2014; Amy Winston <amynka@gentoo.org> openctm-1.0.3.ebuild: Gtk+ dependency repaired bug #525328 from my changelog.
