Updated kde to 3.2.3 but no luck. But now it seems to work. I think its because of rebuilding X.org 2 days ago. Now it seems to work. I still have this problem, but I haven't rebuilt my xfree after upgrading to gcc 3.4.1. I'll try this later and see if it helps. Sidenote: What's the correct upgrade path from gcc 3.3.x to gcc 3.4.1? @Robin Smidsr @Robin Smidsrød: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.1 (gcc 3.4.1) No problem after rebuilding X and also no problem with kde 3.3 beta 2 But I'm using xorg not xfree so I don't know if this helps when using xfree too. So I can only say that rebuilding xorg fixed it for me. same here---kcminit crashes. unfortunately, not much more information on the panel. rest works fine. its just a nuisance, not a big deal. so, I am now thinking about rebuilding xorg/x11, too---except that my system somehow ended up with a working mix of these two. I seem to run xorg, but some virtual stuff (virtual/x11, though this comes from an xorg package) from the x1--base/xfree. I guess these are all just growing pains in the process of switching from xfree to xorg, that will go away by themselves. /iaw $ emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r11 (gcc34-2004.2, gcc-3.4.1, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.7-gentoo-r14) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.7-gentoo-r14 x86_64 4 Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 distcc 2.12.1 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-pipe -O2" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-pipe -O2" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache" GENTOO_MIRRORS=" http://mirror.clarkson.edu/pub/distributions/gentoo/ ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/ http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/gentoo/ ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib alsa amd64 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo cdr crypt cups directfb encode esd f77 foomaticdb g77 gdbm ggi gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imlib java jpeg kde ldap libg++ libwww mikmod motif mozilla mpeg mysql nas ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png postgres python qt quicktime readline ruby scanner sdl slang snmp spell ssl tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype ungif usb xml2 xmms xprint xv zlib" I'm also seeing KCMInit crash, although this is with gcc 3.3.4, so it may be a different issue. If the rest of you could run this test 'kcminit --list' lists all of the individual modules that it starts. I found that I could run through this list, item by item (kcminit mouse, kcminit energy, etc), and found that it was 'kgamma' that was causing the crash. My Control Center was also dying when switching to the Display view, which I've also traced to something in usr/kde/3.3/lib/kde3/kcm_kgamma.so. I re-emerged kdegraphics (which installs kgamma.so), with +debug nostrip, and the crash no longer occurs, and I get a properly functioning gamma tab in my Display controls. bash-2.05b$ emerge info Portage 2.0.51_rc9 (default-amd64-2004.2, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.7-gentoo-r14 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.7-gentoo-r14 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.6-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r5 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fexpensive-optimizations -march=athlon64" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fexpensive-optimizations -march=athlon64" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache distlocks" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.osuosl.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X Xaw3d alsa amd64 apm arts avi berkdb cdr crypt cscope doc dvd dvdr emacs encode faad flac foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 imlibipv6 java jpeg jpeg2k kde ldap leim libg++ libwww lzw-tiff mad mikmod motif mozilla mpeg multilib nas ncurses network nls nogcj oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline ruby samba sdl slang spell ssl tcpd tetex theora threads tiff truetype unicode vim-with-x xine xinerama xml xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid zlib" sounds like some strange issue that hopefully has cleared itself up now. |
