The output of 'journalctl --no-pager -b /usr/bin/Xorg'
BTW., hanging means in this case, that I can see the gdm login screen with very low contrast. But I neither can login, nor can switch to the console with ATL-CTL-F1. Only login with ssh is possible. I can stop and restart gdm via ssh, but nothing changes at monitor. Only reboot seems to help. > [176151.552337] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] read fault at 0x000001b000 [PAGE_NOT_PRESENT] from PFIFO/BAR_READ on channel 0x003fc60000 [unknown]

Looks to me like a kernel problem and not userspace. Maybe check if it happens with older kernels too.

If possible, please open a bug report upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ too, and provide the link here. Or you could try this patch first: http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nv84_fence.c?id=1dadba87cba20989c5a5a56f2a86fe6672e37c30 Please report back to us when you have been able to test the patch mentioned in comment 9. Until now the "read fault" seems to be not happened again. At least the desktop was not hanging again with the patched kernel. I will continue to observe the behaviour. I opened a bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86794 . We'll watch the upstream bug and backport any fixes identified. |
