b.g.o. printout to file (pdf)
Even if I print this page here to file (pdf) in firefox then you see the title line is not good.
It is not related to specific printer.
Still the same with net-print/cups-2.0.0-r2 . The bug somehow depends on the font or font size and style used on a page. Given the fact that the b.g.o output (in the pdf) looks good except for headers this is very likely a font issue on your side. Please attach the output of an $ emerge --info, a list of all fonts installed (e.g. $ eix -I -c -C media-fonts), and the output of $ eselect fontconfig list. eix -I -c -C media-fonts [I] media-fonts/arphicfonts (0.2.20080216.1-r2@01.05.2014): Chinese TrueType Arphic Fonts [I] media-fonts/baekmuk-fonts (2.2-r2@08.01.2012): Korean Baekmuk Font [I] media-fonts/corefonts (1-r6@25.07.2011): Microsoft's TrueType core fonts [I] media-fonts/dejavu (2.34@05.09.2013): DejaVu fonts, bitstream vera with ISO-8859-2 characters [I] media-fonts/encodings (1.0.4@24.07.2011): X.Org font encodings [I] media-fonts/font-adobe-100dpi (1.0.3@21.07.2012): X.Org Adobe bitmap fonts [I] media-fonts/font-alias (1.0.3@25.07.2011): X.Org font aliases [I] media-fonts/font-misc-misc (1.1.2@25.07.2011): X.Org miscellaneous fonts [I] media-fonts/font-util (1.3.0@20.03.2012): X.Org font utilities [I] media-fonts/liberation-fonts (2.00.1-r1@08.07.2014): A Helvetica/Times/Courier replacement TrueType font set, courtesy of Red Hat [I] media-fonts/libertine-ttf (5.1.3.20110615@08.07.2014): OpenType fonts from the Linux Libertine Open Fonts Project [I] media-fonts/lklug (0.6@08.03.2012): Sinhala font [I] media-fonts/lohit-fonts (2.4.2@08.01.2012): The Lohit family of Indic fonts [I] media-fonts/sazanami (20040629@08.01.2012): Sazanami Japanese TrueType fonts [I] media-fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera (1.10-r3@26.07.2012): Bitstream Vera font family [I] media-fonts/urw-fonts (2.4.9@24.07.2011): free good quality fonts gpl'd by URW++ 16 Treffer. eselect fontconfig list Available fontconfig .conf files (* is enabled): [1] 10-autohint.conf [2] 10-no-sub-pixel.conf [3] 10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf * [4] 10-sub-pixel-bgr.conf [5] 10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf [6] 10-sub-pixel-vbgr.conf [7] 10-sub-pixel-vrgb.conf [8] 10-unhinted.conf [9] 11-lcdfilter-default.conf [10] 11-lcdfilter-legacy.conf [11] 11-lcdfilter-light.conf [12] 20-unhint-small-dejavu-sans-mono.conf [13] 20-unhint-small-dejavu-sans.conf [14] 20-unhint-small-dejavu-serif.conf [15] 20-unhint-small-vera.conf * [16] 25-ttf-arphic-ukai-render.conf [17] 25-ttf-arphic-uming-bitmaps.conf [18] 25-ttf-arphic-uming-render.conf [19] 25-unhint-nonlatin.conf [20] 30-metric-aliases.conf * [21] 30-urw-aliases.conf * [22] 35-ttf-arphic-ukai-aliases.conf [23] 35-ttf-arphic-uming-aliases.conf [24] 40-nonlatin.conf * [25] 41-ttf-arphic-ukai.conf [26] 41-ttf-arphic-uming.conf [27] 45-latin.conf * [28] 49-sansserif.conf * [29] 50-user.conf * [30] 51-local.conf * [31] 57-dejavu-sans-mono.conf [32] 57-dejavu-sans.conf [33] 57-dejavu-serif.conf [34] 60-latin.conf * [35] 60-liberation.conf [36] 64-ttf-arphic-uming.conf [37] 65-fonts-persian.conf * [38] 65-khmer.conf [39] 65-nonlatin.conf * [40] 66-lohit-assamese.conf [41] 66-lohit-bengali.conf [42] 66-lohit-gujarati.conf [43] 66-lohit-hindi.conf [44] 66-lohit-kannada.conf [45] 66-lohit-kashmiri@devanagari.conf [46] 66-lohit-konkani.conf [47] 66-lohit-maithili.conf [48] 66-lohit-marathi.conf [49] 66-lohit-oriya.conf [50] 66-lohit-punjabi.conf [51] 66-lohit-sindhi@devanagari.conf [52] 66-lohit-tamil.conf [53] 66-lohit-telugu.conf [54] 67-lohit-malayalam.conf [55] 67-lohit-nepali.conf [56] 69-unifont.conf * [57] 70-no-bitmaps.conf [58] 70-yes-bitmaps.conf [59] 75-ttf-arphic-ukai-select.conf [60] 80-delicious.conf * [61] 90-synthetic.conf * [62] 90-ttf-arphic-ukai-embolden.conf [63] 90-ttf-arphic-uming-embolden.conf [64] 99pdftoopvp.conf emerge --info is in my first post. Please disable bitmaps fonts, so that you end up with [3] 10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf [57] 70-no-bitmaps.conf * [58] 70-yes-bitmaps.conf and (temporarily) disable all local modifications under /etc/fonts/local.conf and $HOME by unsetting [29] 50-user.conf [30] 51-local.conf After that, restart the desktop environment and try again. It should now pick up a true type replacement for the fonts in question that printout nicely. You might also want to enable a specific font family as default sans serif/serif/monospace provider, e.g. [31] 57-dejavu-sans-mono.conf * [32] 57-dejavu-sans.conf * [33] 57-dejavu-serif.conf * (There are multiple alternatives around media-fonts/droid or media-fonts/ubuntu-font-family, etc.) (In reply to Matthias Maier from comment #8) > Please disable bitmaps fonts, so that you end up with > [3] 10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf > [57] 70-no-bitmaps.conf * > [58] 70-yes-bitmaps.conf > > and (temporarily) disable all local modifications under > /etc/fonts/local.conf and $HOME by unsetting > [29] 50-user.conf > [30] 51-local.conf > > After that, restart the desktop environment and try again. I did what you told me. /etc/fonts/local.conf does not exist on my system. But I found: lrwxrwxrwx 1 joerg joerg 41 22. Okt 2013 /home/joerg/.fonts.conf -> /home/joerg/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf and -rw-r--r-- 1 joerg joerg 530 26. Apr 2013 /home/joerg/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf cat /home/joerg/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf <?xml version='1.0'?> <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'> <fontconfig> <match target="font"> <edit mode="assign" name="rgba"> <const>none</const> </edit> </match> <match target="font"> <edit mode="assign" name="hinting"> <bool>true</bool> </edit> </match> <match target="font"> <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle"> <const>hintmedium</const> </edit> </match> <match target="font"> <edit mode="assign" name="antialias"> <bool>true</bool> </edit> </match> <dir>~/.fonts</dir> </fontconfig> I did not create that files by hand. Now the printout works as it should. I was angry about that problem for a long time. I can't remember that I ever made changes with eselect fontconfig but it could be related to Google Earth were I had fonts missing/not displayed corectly. There should be a bitmap fonts related hint in http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Fontconfig for the problem I had. I have the feeling, firefox now uses a different but good readable font for its menu bar. The same for lxpanel. I will consider installing the Font family alternatives if I need to. Thank you very much! You're welcome. Well, font configuration can be a tricky endeavor... Regarding a possible wiki entry: The wiki is a community project, so feel free to add a small section explaining that ugly/blocky text might be related to bitmap fonts accidentally being used. :-) |
