Description Michael M. Tung 2014-08-08 09:42:57 UTC
After an upgrade to Perl 5.18.2 I am having problems to use overlay ebuilds for deb packages (e.g. media-tv/plex-media-server-0.9.9.13). The ebuild is calling deb2targz for conversion and then skips essential sections:

>>> Unpacking plexmediaserver_0.9.9.13.525-197d5ed_amd64.deb to /var/tmp/portage/media-tv/plex-media-server-0.9.9.13/work
deb2targz: converting 'plexmediaserver_0.9.9.13.525-197d5ed_amd64.deb' ...
deb2targz: skipping section 'debian-binary'
deb2targz: skipping section 'control.tar.gz'
deb2targz: wrote 'plexmediaserver_0.9.9.13.525-197d5ed_amd64.tar.gz'

Later this produces a failure in the installation part:

>>> Install plex-media-server-0.9.9.13 into /var/tmp/portage/media-tv/plex-media-server-0.9.9.13/image/ category media-tv
 * updating init script
 * ERROR: media-tv/plex-media-server-0.9.9.13::mike failed (install phase):
 *   !!! newinitd: /usr/local/portage/media-tv/plex-media-server/files/pms_initd_1 does not exist

I can attach the full log, if needed. The problem, however, appears to be generic, whenever deb packages are converted to targz by using deb2targz. I suspect it might be an issue with the latest Perl upgrade.

Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
         Michael

Why don't these ebuilds use unpack_deb from unpacker.eclass?

> and then skips essential sections:

Those are not essential.

It fails to find a file in the overlay's $FILESDIR for that ebuild. This has nothing to do with unpacking sources.

1) Please post your `emerge --info' output in a comment.
2) Please attach the entire failing build log to this bug report.

We can't fix ebuilds in your overlay.
Comment 6 Michael M. Tung 2014-08-08 17:32:42 UTC
Hi Jeroen, the official overlay for Plex is located at http://gpo.zugaina.org/media-tv/plex-media-server . If you can't fix it, maybe the corresponding developer can. Thanks, Mike
