A new update for Hunspell has been released on 06/02/2014 (unfortunately, a changelog is unavailable).

However, it seems the static library patch is no longer needed. I have included another patch instead, to make hunspell correctly output character counts instead of byte counts in -a mode. This makes it work correctly with utf-8 text and Emacs ispell mode. The patch is taken from http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=7781#31.
