Description Peter D 2014-07-17 07:01:44 UTC
media-libs/giflib-4.1.6-r3 build fails unless x11-libs/libSM is installed first.

I now have a working system, but the error reported was "cannot find -lSM" similar to http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-904596-start-0.html

I am reporting the "missing dependency" based on the advice there, but I'm pretty new to the process.

Installing media-libs/giflib-4.1.6-r2 appears to pull in libSM as required and compile proceeds normally.

Without the build log it's hard to tell, but most likely a dupe of bug 483258.

Thanks Rafal,

I've attached the build log and emerge --info output.

Also:

Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2014-07-31 04:00:03 UTC
it was broken during the multilib upgrade. older versions pulled in libSM.

it's not exactly a dupe of bug 483258, but fixing that will fix this.
