Description Mark R. Pariente 2014-07-16 08:36:43 UTC
After upgrading to net-wireless/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.248 I'm experiencing periodic 1-2 second system freezes where all interrupts are dropped (even keyboard/mouse don't respond). The freezes happen quite frequently, like every 30 seconds or so. While a freeze is ongoing I can see that ksoftirqd is using 200% CPU. I'm using gentoo-sources-3.15.5. Downgrading back to 6.30.223.141-r2 fixes the issue.

Which chip are you using?
Also, could you please test whether this occurs with kernel 3.13.* as well?
Comment 2 Mark R. Pariente 2014-07-16 18:53:30 UTC
The chip is:

04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 02)

I will test with 3.13.* later and let you know. Let me know if you need any other information.
Comment 3 Kevin Murphy 2014-09-09 07:51:23 UTC
Confirming same behavior with same chip on kernels 3.14.17 and 3.16.1 on Arch Linux. Downgrading from .248 to .141 also solves the problem, but renders me unable to connect to 5GHz networks. I'll also try 3.13.8; what's special about 3.13?
Comment 4 Kevin Murphy 2014-09-09 08:07:04 UTC
Also occurs for me with 3.13.8.

I've contacted upstream (linux-wlan-client-support-list@broadcom.com) about it - will update here if I hear back.

No updates, presumably? They never responded to an email of mine.

Dropping myself as a maintainer. In this case, also marking as CANTFIX.
