Description Janis Blechert 2004-05-21 02:17:17 UTC
lateley I have been upgrading from xfree to xorg-x11, everything works fine expect that my special keys (win, Alt Gr, etc.) won't work anymore, since I am german and use a german keyboard i now can't make characters such as ~, @, [ and I can't switch desktops via Win+F4 anymore. Strangely enough if I try to assign a key combo with winkey to 'Switch to Desktop X' it accepts 'Win' but if I hold Win and F4 only F4 is used.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install xorg-x11 and kdebase-3.2.2
2. Switch to german keyboard layout and try for example to make an @ using Alt Gr + Q, it won't work
2. Or get into the Control Center and try to reassign any shortcut to a combo with winkey in it

Expected Results:
let me use my keyboard as xfree-4.3.0 did..

I remember having the same problem with xfree cvs back when i was using
slackware a few months ago. So the problem is most likely related to this.

have you modified EXTENDED_KEYMAPS in /etc/rc.conf ?
Comment 2 Janis Blechert 2004-05-21 07:28:37 UTC
No I have not and I have no idea what I should change..
Comment 3 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-21 07:42:21 UTC
i'm not sure either, but I think if you set it to "euro" it will add the ability to use the euro symbol. Other things may be settable too - perhaps the xfree team knows more.

Check http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48307 regarding the win key.
Comment 5 Janis Blechert 2004-05-22 06:29:55 UTC
woohoo it works all fine, this patch should be added to the default patch set IMHO, thanks. I think this bug can be closed now
