* Starting with the 3.x release new kernel modules were added,
 * be sure to load all the needed modules.
 * 
 * Please add "vboxdrv", "vboxnetflt" and "vboxnetadp" to:
 * /etc/conf.d/modules


That works only for openrc. Automatic loading of modules in systemd is configured in another file. I think the istruction for systemd should also be included in elog messages. See https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Systemd#Automatic_module_loading

I would simply install a /etc/modules-load.d/virtualbox.conf with the package to not need to play with the file
