I'm using the dev. version, but it works nicely (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=11113&release_id=237375)

Also please notice, the author is planning a 0.4 release -> maybe keep an eye on it

If 0.4 is that close, I'd rather wait a few days and get the stable version instead of causing a version bump and a recompile after a short time for everybody. 

You can try the new Version with the current ebuild by copying the ebuild for 0.2.5.4 to k3d-0.3.9.11.ebuild.
