kernel-3.14 based vmci module does not load with current systemd unit file which tries to modprobe vmci.ko instead of vmw_vmci.ko

can be worked around by manually editing /usr/lib64/systemd/system/vmware-vmci.service

Would be better if the module based systemd service files were part of vmware-modules instead of workstation. vmware-modules already has the needed use flags for kernel modules vsock and vmw_vmci. Also these service units will not work if vmware-modules is not installed

Bug 501538 has been fixed, but this one is unfixed. So it should be reopened and fixed.

Bug 501538 seems to be concerned only to openrc, not systemd.
