This bug appears to have been filed upstream:

Masking this for now, will re-evaluate later.

+# Tom Wijsman <TomWij@gentoo.org> (02 May 2014)
+# Bluetooth support in MATE has incompatibilities with recent BlueZ versions.
+# If you want to try to get this working, unmask net-wireless/mate-bluetooth as
+# well as the bluetooth USE flag on mate-extra/mate-user-share; I can't support
+# this until the relevant upstreams have moved forward with their compatibility.

Any problem with treecleaning this? That would allow us to also drop the old obexd ebuild as this is the ultimate consumer of that one :/

Thanks
Comment 4 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-20 10:19:40 UTC
I don't see a problem with treecleaning all mate-1.6* related stuff. We have 1.8* stabilized for quite a while now.
Comment 5 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-20 18:22:27 UTC
mate 1.6 was obsoleted and removed from the tree.
With this net-wireless/mate-bluetooth will also be removed (not part of mate 1.8 any more)
