Description Russ Pridemore 2004-05-07 15:45:47 UTC
I have openoffice 1.1.0-r2 installed and working fine. The upgrade to 1.1.1-r1
is failing as follows:

Could you please post your output of emerge info? Also: Are you sure that your hd isn't full?
Comment 2 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-08 05:04:06 UTC
Also it seems that you have -mcpu=i686 -march=athlon-xp This does not make much sense as there is no way that such code is going to run on an i686 so why schedule your code for such a processor. Please note that -mcpu affects scheduling (the order of the instructions, which can be optimized for a particular cpu) while -march affects which instructions can be generated. Every generation has added it's own instructions which results in code for that architecture (-march) not being able to run on systems that don't have those instructions.

After correcting my CFLAGS and trying again, the compile still blows up:

Comment 5 Russ Pridemore 2004-05-16 16:12:12 UTC
I'm having lots of difficulties here sorting out this problem. I was thinking
that my incorrect CFLAGS setting might have caused my gcc and/or libc to be
unreliable. I tried "emerge gcc", but that failed with an internal compiler
error. So I tried booting from the LiveCD again, to reinstall the base system,
hoping that I could re-install gcc that way. But no such luck.

I'm getting pretty frustrated at this point, so I backed up my data and formatted
the drive and started the install fresh. But I *still* cannot get gcc working!
Here is the output of bootstrap.sh:

/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE

This looks like hardware problems. Take a look at bug #20600
Comment 7 Russ Pridemore 2004-05-17 14:51:23 UTC
Yes, I agree that its looking like a hw problem, but what? Processor, mobo,
memory? How do I debug this? Any suggestions?
Comment 8 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-18 01:21:15 UTC
Look at bug #20600. It should have some suggestions. Basically it involves testing (try memcheck for example)
