Please attach the debug.log created by: "emerge --pretend --depclean --debug &> debug.log" for the case where it shows the unsatisfied dependency for prelink. Created attachment 371440 [details]

emerge --pretend --depclean --debug 2>&1 | tee /tmp/debug.log
Portage's output is ended with quoted error message.
debug.log is bzip2 compressed because result file doesn't fit Bugzilla's limit.
Rolling system back to the issued state (i.e. comment line in /etc/portage/package.use and emerge --oneshot dev-libs/elfutils) also don't find any error.
