/dev/cdrom is a hardcoded link to /dev/sr0 since systemd (udev) 195'ish, from following rule: $ grep sr0 /lib/udev/rules.d/60-cdrom_id.rules KERNEL=="sr0", SYMLINK+="cdrom", OPTIONS+="link_priority=-100" do you have this file? do you have any files in /etc/udev/rules.d/ that might confuse it? such as old persistent rules from udev 171'ish? the directory should be empty, unless you have put files there by yourself how about required kernel opts like CONFIG_BLK_DEV_BSG=y ? (In reply to Juergen Rose from comment #0) > I don't have any /dev/cd* device: > > root@cheetahnew:/root(69)# ll /dev/cd* > /bin/ls: cannot access /dev/cd*: No such file or directory > root@cheetahnew:/root(70)# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/ > 46_ds2490.rules 52-usblib.rules 80-net-name-slot.rules what's inside those rules? and to verify, you have /dev/sr0 right? if /dev/sr0 is missing, then symlink won't be created since there's nothing to link it to (In reply to Samuli Suominen from comment #2) > (In reply to Juergen Rose from comment #0) > > I don't have any /dev/cd* device: > > > > root@cheetahnew:/root(69)# ll /dev/cd* > > /bin/ls: cannot access /dev/cd*: No such file or directory > > root@cheetahnew:/root(70)# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/ > > 46_ds2490.rules 52-usblib.rules 80-net-name-slot.rules > > what's inside those rules? > > and to verify, you have /dev/sr0 right? if /dev/sr0 is missing, then symlink > won't be created since there's nothing to link it to I do not have a /dev/sr0 device. Sorry, my fault, I lost the cable connection between main board and DVD-drive. Thanks for the help. (In reply to Juergen Rose from comment #3) > I do not have a /dev/sr0 device.
