Description Ben Kohler gentoo-dev 2014-01-23 15:16:52 UTC
The kernel wireless extensions (wext) are being replaced [1] by nl80211/cfg80211 and net-wireless/iw takes the place of net-wireless/wireless-tools. I think we are still a ways off from wanting to remove wireless-tools, but I believe iw should be added now so we can start using that in docs/support/etc.

I'm hoping we can soon get to a point where we don't have to tell users "the minimal iso doesn't have much wifi support, try <insert 3rd party cd here> instead."

Thanks!

Rick,

this doesn't depend on stage3.

Whoops, sorry about that, I was reading this in the wrong frame of mind.

Can we just add this to the spec and close the bug? I see no reason not to.
