My headless server has no dbus installed. It was fine with cups-filter-1.0.41, but 1.0.43 seems to need dbus and fails with this error:

checking for DBUS... no
configure: error: Package requirements (dbus-1) were not met:

No package 'dbus-1' found



In fact after looking into it, it seems than this version introduces a new --enable-dbus configure flag enabled by default. Adding a --disable-dbus in the ebuild make it install fine on my system.

So I think that net-print/cups-filters-1.0.43 would need:
- A new dbus USE flag
- A new dbus dependency on this use flag
- And a use_enable dbus at configure step
