klibc will not compile with -nostdlib in your cflags. Ebuild itself has: append-flags -nostdlib ... KLIBCOPTFLAGS='-nostdlib' \ ... KLIBCOPTFLAGS='-nostdlib' \ I think I was looking at an older version I'll have to look at this a little deeper tomorrow or this weekend. With -nostdlib: gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/basic/.fixdep.d -march=corei7 -mtune=native -O2 -pipe -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fomit-frame-pointer -nostdlib -o scripts/basic/fixdep scripts/basic/fixdep.c /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.8.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol _start; defaulting to 0000000000400160 /tmp/ccbldaZC.o: In function `define_config': fixdep.c:(.text+0x24): undefined reference to `realloc' fixdep.c:(.text+0x6a): undefined reference to `memcpy' fixdep.c:(.text+0x96): undefined reference to `perror' fixdep.c:(.text+0xa0): undefined reference to `exit' /tmp/ccbldaZC.o: In function `strrcmp': fixdep.c:(.text+0xbb): undefined reference to `strlen' fixdep.c:(.text+0xc6): undefined reference to `strlen' /tmp/ccbldaZC.o: In function `parse_dep_file': fixdep.c:(.text+0x11e): undefined reference to `strchr' fixdep.c:(.text+0x14c): undefined reference to `__memcpy_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x16d): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x1e2): undefined reference to `__memcpy_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x25c): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x274): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x2b3): undefined reference to `__ctype_b_loc' fixdep.c:(.text+0x2ec): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x2fd): undefined reference to `open' fixdep.c:(.text+0x319): undefined reference to `__fxstat' fixdep.c:(.text+0x33e): undefined reference to `mmap' fixdep.c:(.text+0x3cb): undefined reference to `memcmp' fixdep.c:(.text+0x3e2): undefined reference to `__ctype_b_loc' fixdep.c:(.text+0x414): undefined reference to `perror' fixdep.c:(.text+0x41c): undefined reference to `close' fixdep.c:(.text+0x430): undefined reference to `munmap' fixdep.c:(.text+0x438): undefined reference to `close' fixdep.c:(.text+0x49c): undefined reference to `memcmp' fixdep.c:(.text+0x4f0): undefined reference to `__memcpy_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x53e): undefined reference to `__ctype_tolower_loc' fixdep.c:(.text+0x573): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text+0x58e): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text+0x593): undefined reference to `fwrite' fixdep.c:(.text+0x5a0): undefined reference to `perror' fixdep.c:(.text+0x5aa): undefined reference to `exit' fixdep.c:(.text+0x5c0): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text+0x5c5): undefined reference to `fwrite' fixdep.c:(.text+0x5cf): undefined reference to `exit' /tmp/ccbldaZC.o: In function `strrcmp': fixdep.c:(.text+0xe5): undefined reference to `memcmp' /tmp/ccbldaZC.o: In function `main': fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x50): undefined reference to `__printf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x60): undefined reference to `open' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x79): undefined reference to `__fxstat' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x9a): undefined reference to `mmap' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0xbd): undefined reference to `munmap' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0xc4): undefined reference to `close' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0xe6): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0xed): undefined reference to `__fprintf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0xf4): undefined reference to `close' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x100): undefined reference to `perror' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x107): undefined reference to `close' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x110): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x127): undefined reference to `__fprintf_chk' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x131): undefined reference to `exit' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x147): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x14c): undefined reference to `fwrite' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x158): undefined reference to `perror' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x162): undefined reference to `exit' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x178): undefined reference to `stderr' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x17d): undefined reference to `fwrite' fixdep.c:(.text.startup+0x187): undefined reference to `exit' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status Without: #gcc -Wp,-MD,scripts/basic/.fixdep.d -march=corei7 -mtune=native -O2 -pipe -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/basic/fixdep scripts/basic/fixdep.c 19:45:09-root@comanche:/tmp/portage/dev-libs/klibc-2.0.3/work/klibc-2.0.3 # Still having this error here, so any news? Sounds like you have a custom-cflags combination that is not valid to build klibc. Feel free to take this upstream. This bug occurs even with empty CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS, LDFLAGS. Maybe custom-cflags should be removed from this ebuild. I know I will not be looking at this bug anymore. (In reply to Arfrever Frehtes Taifersar Arahesis from comment #8) > This bug occurs even with empty CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS, LDFLAGS. but with USE="custom-cflags"? USE="custom-cflags" for klibc means you have to know what flags it needs to build itself maybe put it to package.use.mask instead, to prevent users who don't know what flags klibc needs to build itself :o IMHO, custom-cflags should not mean to actually know which flag to compile package with, but should mean which flags to *append* to compile package. And in this case, there are plenty of "safe" flags that could be added in this side. At least, that is how I understand the custom-cflags IUSE present in several packages. Add: At least that is the apparent behaviour of the rest of packages, where you set your own CFLAGS, but the package adds things automatically, for example -fPIC -DPIC, which you have not added manually.
