Using the mentioned sqlite results in a problem where XBMC can't show tvshows in it's library, movies and other media are uneffected, though.

Downgrading to stable, currently 3.7.17 brings the functionality back, I've yet to try other unstable versions.

sqlite has been updated to 3.8.2 and now works for me again, version bump request has been filed in bug #493612
