A bug made it into the kdesu module of kde 3.2.2.  kdesu will not accept the root password at all, so anything like running a file manager in supersuse mode or using admin features in kconfig will just not work.  Evidently there is a patch for it in this kde bugzilla entry:

re-emerge of kdelibs should fix this now, see the Bug 48474.
