Description Timo Eissler 2013-10-16 09:21:25 UTC
I updated my grub from sys-boot/grub-0.97-r12 to sys-boot/grub-2.00_p5107-r1 and noticed that all of my customizations i made to /etc/default/grub where lost during the update.

As i have a more complex grub configuration (boot from encrypted raid) i think it would be usefull if the file will not be just overwritten. Instead the file should be updated as every other configuration file within /etc.

As the default file would not allow me to boot i change the priority of this bug to major.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install or have sys-boot/grub-0.97-r12:0 installed
2. Customize /etc/default/grub
3. Update to sys-boot/grub-2.00_p5107-r1:2
4. Check that your customizations of /etc/default/grub is lost
Actual Results:
/etc/default/grub overritten with new version

Expected Results:
/etc/default/grub should be updated with etc-update or dispatch-conf to the new version

As far as I know, /etc/default/grub serves no purpose with grub-0.97, and it is not installed by the ebuild. What were you using it for?

Ok my fault... i thought that the default boot parameters of grub 0.97 also came from /etc/default/grub.
