misc bugs have been popping up with people questioning the presence of certaing packages in the 'core' or 'system' of Gentoo.

my suggestion towards making the slimmest (weird, 1 m away from slime) core ... the core *should* only contain the minimum packages required to emerge other packages/start the system up

examples:
reiserfs tools (either you love or hate reiserfs ... some people detest the mere presence of said binaries on their systems)
raidtools (not everyone runs raid ;])
telnetd (if ssh isnt here, why is telnet ? plus, how is telnet required to emerge other packages ?)
dhcpcd (yes it is quite common on desktops, but not servers ...)
what are your opinions ?

i guess one source of rational to ues when generating the 'core' of gentoo is

We trimmed it down, and removed reiserfsprogs, telnetd and raidtools.
