Description John Thompson 2004-04-22 07:28:56 UTC
I had just unzipped the stage 2 pentium III tarball on a pentium III machine. In the handbook I contiuned along until I came to the 'emerge system' command. There were about 64 packages that had to be downloaded and installed. On the second or third package, it was installing files into the /usr/lib/perl5 directory. Before it was able to complete and go onto the next package there was a message proclaiming that I needed perl 5 on my system to install it. The compiler or packager stopped. I then went into my /etc/make.conf file and removed perl from the USE flag variable. I ran 'emerge system' again and it continued on past the perl library package and installed properly. I don't know if this is supposed to happen or if this is a bug, however, it seems you cannot put the perl USE flag into /etc/make.conf on a stage 2 installation before emerge system is completed.

Wranglers - please reassign this. This is a livecd/buildcd issue, not a perl issue.

Obsolete bug. Please reopen if it still does not work with 2005.1 stage2.
