The problem appears to be specific to my KDE configuration. I'm the only daily user on this system but I do have other user accounts. None of them have any delays when logging in so it appears that this latest rev of KDE is having trouble with only my older KDE configuration files. I haven't done it yet but I suspect that if I delete everything it will work fine. I'm going to mark this as resolved/invalid although I'll leave it to others to change the status if they see fit. This problem is somehow caused by newer NVidia drivers not handling multi-GPU setups like they did in times past. Don't ask me why it effects only KDM-based logins and nothing else on my system but it did. To get around it all I did was comment out everything in xorg.conf that had to do with the second adapter card & 3rd monitor. Now I have to run with just 2 monitors instead of 3 but login is immediate. I'll keep an old xorg.conf around if someone wants me to test something but for my immediate needs the problem is solved. |
