While world update, the build of the package failed at compaile phase.

The command line I used for the update is:
emerge --backtrack=61440 --update --deep --newuse --with-bdeps=y @world

Re-emerge x11-apps/xcursorgen . You should be able to use revdep-rebuild from app-portage/gentoolkit to automate this after upgrading libraries, or use FEATURES=preserve-libs with newer versions of sys-apps/portage.
