Description Horea Christian 2013-08-18 20:59:39 UTC
A series of gimp functions should be callable via python, as described here: http://www.gimp.org/docs/python/

I have a /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/python/gimpfu.py file - but " from gimpfu import * " in python tells me there's no such module.

Just a quick reply for now ..

Potential ways to address this problem seem to be:

 - Extend PYTHONPATH system-wide

 - Add workaround symlinks

 - Expect the user/developer to extend PYTHONPATH him/herself

Any other options?

In Debian, gimpfu.py is located [1] at

  /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/python/gimpfu.py

I will check how that works out in practice, when I have my hands on a Debian desktop the next few days.

Yeah, I tried adding the dir to the path myself.

'''

#!/usr/bin/env python
import sys
sys.path.append("/usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/python/")
from os import path, listdir
from gimpfu import *
#~ import pdb

input_folder = "/home/chymera/src/pyxrand/orig1"

for pic_name in listdir (input_folder):
    pic_path = input_folder + pic_name
    im = pdb.file_jpeg_load(pic_path, pic_path)
    print im
    break

'''

This little bit of code fails with:

(process:24875): LibGimpBase-ERROR **: gimp_wire_write_msg: the wire protocol has not been initialized
Trace/breakpoint trap
Comment 5 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2013-09-15 19:23:17 UTC
So on Debian "from gimpfu import *" does not seem to work either.
This is sys.path over there:

  [
    "",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/plat-x86_64-linux-gnu",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-tk",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-old",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload",
    "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PIL",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gst-0.10",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0",
    "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7",
    "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/wx-2.8-gtk2-unicode",
  ]

I dare to close the bug. If you see need to re-open, I will need your help with an appropriate way to address the issue.
